I have two weather bugs on my desktop, one of St Louis weather and one of Merida weather. Recently the temperature and humidity has been neck and neck. The last couple of days St Louis has pulled ahead! Of course we have central air and air conditioning in the car It won't be so in Merida. But I have been talking up getting solar system so that we do not have the budget busting electric bills. So when we go to Merida in December we will be talking to whatever experts we can find. I may just have my brother-in-laws father visit us as he has installed it in his house in Puerto Rico and gone from a 750.00 dollar a month electric bill to receiving a check from selling power each month. Santiago Sr is an retired engineer and does major research before he buys anything. I know he would be a great resource for us. Now I know that CFE will not buy my excess power, but it sure would be great to have a zero bill! And you never know, perhaps that could change.... So if anyone out there has some experience with solar in Merida or the Yucatan I would love to hear about it!
We interviewed Yaaxtec for future energy needs. It's not in our budget right now, either, but we're reserving the place on our roof and figuring out what percentage of the house will be covered (30 was recommended). They were very professional and knowledgable. They agreed that the longer we wait, the smaller and cheaper the panels will be.

DeleteSome good friends of ours put in solar panels, their bill is almost the same as ours or even less. Their house is much bigger, they have pumps and a/c and we have fans. I can't remember but I think their bill was something like $2000 mxn when they were conserving! Whereas ours is $400-600 (every two months of course)
ReplyDeleteHe's an engineer by training and imported the panels from China and set up the system himself. So it all came out much cheaper than using a contractor. We looked into solar and they want way more money per panel here than they do NOB. It never occurred to us to import our own panels.
So if you have someone to design the set up and import the panels you are way ahead of the game!
