Shadow and Light..

I haven't been to Merida in almost a year. I just had the pleasure of being there and staying in our partially finished house for 9 days. We had a working bathroom, a bedroom with a mattress, an air conditioner, a plastic table and two chairs and a fan.

I have not seen the house come alive as the details were added. I think the beauty of the house are in the many details that are being added. Many which I had no knowledge of. Many of which I did not like when I saw photographs of... yet when I saw the house last week, the beauty of it all showed and totally charmed me. I see Roger's brilliance. He loves the play of shadow and light.

Is it too orange?

So as you can see the facade of our house has received it's first coat of paint. The photo just below it is the house that is attached to ours. More than likely it was just one house sometime ago, but now it is two. Now the pink house has faded a little in the past two years since it received it's new facade, but at any time the owner could decide it give it another coat of paint. Will I have to describe my house as the really bright orange house next to the hot pink house? I'm glad they do not celebrate Halloween in Merida! Carlos sees the color as terra cotta, but to me it should have a darker undertone of brown to be terra cotta! Oh well, maybe in person on Monday I will see it in a different light, the light of a sunny day in Merida. Until that time I reserve judgement!

Arriving in 10 Days!

Cancun JW Marriott
We arrive in Merida in exactly 10 days... that's just 10 days to finish painting, install windows, doors and screens, toilet and showers, and the kitchen hasn't even been started! Really it's only 7 work days if you count the 1/2 days of Saturday and the Monday we arrive. I think it would take a miracle for the house to be done enough for us to stay there... even at the most basic needs level. ( I just need one bedroom and bathroom finished)  I am really disappointed. Carlos has a more practical sense of "I'd rather it be done right than hurry them and get less than stellar work". Now I am having to figure out where to stay and if we should stay in Merida the entire time. I'm thinking now of just 5 days in Merida (at Las Arecas) and the other 5 in Cancun, finally using some of those thousands and thousands of Marriott points we have.
Here are some new photos from Arturo.

A few more photos... and more color added

Yesterday I got a surprise when I found some photos in our e-mail box. The surprise was that the photos were not from Arturo. (he had just sent us some earlier in the week) Instead the photos were e-mailed from Roger Reyes Gallareta, our esteemed architect! I guess there were several things he wanted us to see right away.. like the faux paint on the beams and the contrasting color of the hallways!
